VertigoMe needs to know roughly where you are to look up your local weather and air pressure, and your phone has to allow that. If the Environment card on the Monitor tab says "No weather data", the most common reason is that the location permission has been switched off. Phones sometimes do this on their own when an app has not been opened for a while.
Start with Step 1 and work down.
The steps work the same on iPhone and Android, but the settings screens differ. We say which is which.
Step 1: Look for the "Location tracking stopped" card
If your phone has turned off location for VertigoMe, the Home screen shows a card called Location tracking stopped, just under the risk gauge.
- Tap Turn it back on.
- Allow location when your phone asks, or switch it on in the settings page that opens.
Step 2: Check that location is allowed for VertigoMe
On iPhone
- Open the Settings app.
- Find VertigoMe (on newer iPhones it sits under Apps) and tap it.
- Tap Location.
- Choose While Using the App. If it says Never or Ask Next Time, that is the problem.
On Android
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Apps, then VertigoMe.
- Tap Permissions, then Location.
- Choose Allow only while using the app.
Step 3: Check that Location is on inside VertigoMe
- Tap the gear icon in the top-left, then Data and Notifications.
- Scroll to the Environment section.
- Make sure the Location row is switched on.
- Under it, the Location permission row should say Granted. If it shows Allow, tap it and allow location. If it shows Open Settings, tap it and allow location there.
- Make sure the weather rows you want (Temperature, Pressure, Humidity, Wind, UV index and the rest) are switched on. They are greyed out while Location is off.
Step 4: Refresh the Monitor tab
- Open the Monitor tab.
- Put your finger near the top of the screen, slide it down a few centimetres and let go.
- Wait about ten seconds while the cards reload.
This works the same way on iPhone and Android.
Step 5: Did you move recently?
After a trip or a move, VertigoMe may still be using your old town. Force-close the app and open it again so it picks up where you are now.
On iPhone
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle.
- Find the VertigoMe card and swipe it up off the screen.
- Tap the VertigoMe icon to open it again.
On Android
- Tap the square button at the bottom (or swipe up and hold).
- Find VertigoMe and swipe it away.
- Tap the VertigoMe icon to open it again.
Step 6: Check that your phone knows where you are
On iPhone
- Open the Maps app and tap the location arrow.
- The map should jump to where you are. If it does not, stand near a window for a minute.
On Android
- Open Google Maps and tap the location button.
- The map should jump to where you are.
If your maps app cannot find you, VertigoMe cannot either.
Step 7: Restart your phone
On iPhone
- Press and hold the side button and either volume button until slide to power off appears.
- Slide to power off.
- Wait about thirty seconds.
- Press the side button to turn it back on.
On Android
- Press and hold the power button.
- Tap Restart. If you only see Power off, tap it, wait a minute, then press the power button again.
Step 8: Reinstall VertigoMe
Your spins and settings are stored in your VertigoMe account, so deleting the app does not delete them.
- Press and hold the VertigoMe icon.
- Tap Delete app (iPhone) or Uninstall (Android).
- Open the App Store or Google Play, search for VertigoMe and install it again.
- Sign in with the same account you used before.
- When asked, allow location.
A note on weather accuracy
The weather and pressure come from weather data for your area. Your phone has no sensor for them. They can be a little out of date or a few miles off. That is normal.
