My Fitbit is not showing data, what do I do?

Fitbit does not connect to VertigoMe directly. Its data has to reach a bridge first: Health Connect on Android, or Apple Health on iPhone. VertigoMe reads from that bridge. So when Fitbit data is missing, the fix is almost always in the bridge.

On iPhone, the Fitbit app does not send data to Apple Health by itself. You need a separate sync app from the App Store that copies Fitbit data into Apple Health. On Android, the Fitbit app can write to Health Connect directly.

Start with Step 1 and work down.

Step 1: Check that Fitbit is syncing today

  1. Open the Fitbit app.
  2. Pull down on the top of the screen to refresh and wait until the sync finishes.
  3. Are today's sleep, steps and heart numbers there?
  4. If not, the gap is between your Fitbit and the Fitbit app. Charge the Fitbit, wear it, and check that Bluetooth is on.

Step 2: Make sure Fitbit data reaches the bridge

This is the most common reason VertigoMe shows no Fitbit data.

On Android (Health Connect)

  1. Open the Fitbit app.
  2. Look in its settings for Health Connect.
  3. Turn on each item you care about (sleep, heart rate, steps).

If you cannot find Health Connect in the Fitbit app, update the Fitbit app from Google Play.

On iPhone (Apple Health)

  1. Open the sync app you use to copy Fitbit data into Apple Health.
  2. Check it copies sleep, heart rate and steps, and that it has run today.

Step 3: Check the bridge has the data

On iPhone

  1. Open the Health app.
  2. Tap Browse, then Sleep. Is last night there?

On Android

  1. Open Health Connect. If you cannot find it, open Settings and search for "Health Connect".
  2. Tap App permissions and check that Fitbit is allowed to write data.
  3. Tap Data and access to see whether recent data is there.

Step 4: Check VertigoMe can read the bridge

On iPhone

  1. Open the Health app and tap your profile picture in the top-right.
  2. Under Privacy, tap Apps, then VertigoMe.
  3. Switch on everything you want. If they are off, tap Turn On All.

On Android

  1. Open Health Connect (or Settings, then search for "Health Connect").
  2. Tap App permissions, then VertigoMe.
  3. Allow the items you want.

Inside VertigoMe

Tap the gear icon, then Connections. The Health Connect card (Android) or Apple Health card (iPhone) should say Connected. If it says Connect, tap it, tap Continue and allow the permissions.

Step 5: Refresh the Monitor tab

  1. Open the Monitor tab.
  2. Put your finger near the top of the screen, slide it down a few centimetres and let go.
  3. Wait about ten seconds while the cards reload.

This works the same way on iPhone and Android.

Step 6: Check the time of day

Fitbit can take an hour or two after you wake up to pass last night's sleep to the bridge. Try again around lunchtime.

Step 7: Force-close VertigoMe

On iPhone

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle.
  2. Find the VertigoMe card and swipe it up off the screen.
  3. Tap the VertigoMe icon to open it again.

On Android

  1. Tap the square button at the bottom (or swipe up and hold).
  2. Find VertigoMe and swipe it away.
  3. Tap the VertigoMe icon to open it again.

Step 8: Restart your phone

A full restart often clears small problems that nothing else will.

Step 9: Reinstall VertigoMe

Your spins and settings are stored in your VertigoMe account, so deleting the app does not delete them.

  1. Press and hold the VertigoMe icon.
  2. Tap Delete app (iPhone) or Uninstall (Android).
  3. Open the App Store or Google Play, search for VertigoMe and install it again.
  4. Sign in with the same account you used before.
  5. Connect Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android) again from gear icon, Connections.
