My food is not showing up, what do I do?

If you log meals in another app (such as MyFitnessPal, Cronometer or Lifesum), VertigoMe can read them through a bridge: Apple Health on iPhone, or Health Connect on Android. When food from that app does not appear in VertigoMe, the bridge or the source setting is almost always the cause. Food also drives your daily sodium count, so it is worth getting right.

Start with Step 1 and work down.

The steps are the same on iPhone and Android, but some screen names differ. We say which is which.

Step 1: Check the food is in the app you used

  1. Open the food app you logged in.
  2. Look at today's meals. Are they there?
  3. If they are not, add them again in that app first.

Step 2: Make sure your food app sends data to the bridge

This is the most common cause.

On iPhone (Apple Health)

  1. Open your food app.
  2. Look in its settings for Apple Health or Health.
  3. Turn it on, and make sure the nutrition items (calories, carbohydrates, sodium and so on) are switched on.

On Android (Health Connect)

  1. Open your food app.
  2. Look in its settings for Health Connect or Connections.
  3. Turn on the food data types.

If your food app has no Health Connect or Apple Health option, it cannot share food with VertigoMe. You can log food in VertigoMe instead (Step 8).

Step 3: Check the bridge has the food

On iPhone

  1. Open the Health app.
  2. Tap Browse, then Nutrition.
  3. Tap Dietary Energy or Sodium. Is today's number there?

On Android

  1. Open Health Connect (or Settings, then search for it).
  2. Tap Data and access, then Nutrition.
  3. Check that recent data is there.

Step 4: Check VertigoMe can read food from the bridge

On iPhone

  1. Open the Health app and tap your profile picture in the top-right.
  2. Under Privacy, tap Apps, then VertigoMe.
  3. Make sure the nutrition items you want are switched on.

On Android

  1. Open Health Connect.
  2. Tap App permissions, then VertigoMe.
  3. Make sure the nutrition items are allowed.

Inside VertigoMe

  1. Tap the gear icon in the top-left, then Connections. The Apple Health or Health Connect card should say Connected.
  2. Go back and tap Data and Notifications.
  3. Scroll to the Nutrition section.
  4. Make sure the Nutrition row is switched on.
  5. Look at its source badge. To read food from your other app, it must say Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android). If it says Phone, tap the badge and pick the bridge in the Choose source box. The bridge only shows up as a choice once it is connected.

Step 5: Refresh the Monitor tab

  1. Open the Monitor tab.
  2. Put your finger near the top of the screen, slide it down a few centimetres and let go.
  3. Wait about ten seconds while the cards reload.

This works the same way on iPhone and Android.

Step 6: Give it a few minutes

If you logged food just now, give it a few minutes. Some food apps only send to the bridge every so often.

Step 7: Force-close VertigoMe

On iPhone

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle.
  2. Find the VertigoMe card and swipe it up off the screen.
  3. Tap the VertigoMe icon to open it again.

On Android

  1. Tap the square button at the bottom (or swipe up and hold).
  2. Find VertigoMe and swipe it away.
  3. Tap the VertigoMe icon to open it again.

Step 8: Log food directly in VertigoMe

VertigoMe has its own food logging, which skips the bridge altogether. It is part of Premium.

  1. Open the Log tab and tap Food, or open the Monitor tab and tap the Diet card.
  2. In the Add Food card, type in the Search foods box, tap the barcode button to scan a packet, or tap the camera button to photograph your meal.

Step 9: Reinstall VertigoMe

Your spins and settings are stored in your VertigoMe account, so deleting the app does not delete them.

  1. Press and hold the VertigoMe icon.
  2. Tap Delete app (iPhone) or Uninstall (Android).
  3. Open the App Store or Google Play, search for VertigoMe and install it again.
  4. Sign in with the same account you used before.
  5. Connect Apple Health or Health Connect again from gear icon, Connections, and allow the nutrition items.
