A prodrome is an early warning sign that a spin may be on its way, sometimes hours or a day before. For people with vestibular conditions this can be ear fullness or pressure, louder tinnitus, a change in hearing, an off-balance feeling, sensitivity to visual motion, brain fog or tiredness.
Tracking your prodromes can help you spot a pattern, so you can rest, avoid a trigger or take a medicine your doctor has prescribed before a spin fully arrives.
Where to find your prodrome settings
These steps are the same on iPhone and Android.
- Tap the gear icon in the top-left corner.
- Tap Manage Items.
- Tap Prodromes.
The Manage Prodromes screen opens, grouped into category cards such as Aural, Vestibular, Visual, Sensory, Cognitive, Mental and Physical.
What you can do here
- Star a prodrome to make it a favourite, so it appears first when you log.
- Delete a prodrome with the trash icon, then tap Delete to confirm. Past logs are not affected.
- Tap a row to open it and set its Prediction weight. Some prodromes are measured automatically from your phone or wearable (for example a low HRV or a high resting heart rate). For those you can switch Auto-detect on or off and change the number it fires at.
- Add your own with the + on a category card. Type a name and tap Add.
Changes to weights, categories and thresholds are saved when you tap Save & Recalculate.
A simple way to use this
You do not need to set anything up first.
- Next time you log a spin, tap any signs you noticed on the Prodromes page.
- After a few spins, come back here and star the three or four you notice most.
How VertigoMe uses prodromes
- Each logged prodrome is linked to the spin that followed, so you can see it in your Journal.
- A logged prodrome adds to your risk score according to its prediction weight.
- Over time the weekly recalibration can suggest changes to these weights.
Prodromes are personal. Give it several spins of careful logging before drawing conclusions.
