Fresh food, home cooking and restaurant meals usually have no barcode. You can type them in and VertigoMe looks up the nutrition in the USDA food database, including sodium and caffeine. Logging food inside VertigoMe is a Premium feature.
Step by step
- Tap the Monitor tab and tap the Diet card, or tap the Food card on the Log tab.
- In the Add Food card, tap Search foods and type the food, for example banana, white rice or chicken soup.
- Tap search on your keyboard. Matching foods appear under Search Results.
- Tap the closest match. A window opens with the food's name and what one serving is ("Per serving") or "Per 100 g".
- Under Meal, pick Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner or Snack.
- Under Servings, use + and − to change the amount in quarter steps. 0.50 is half, 2.00 is double.
- Check the flags and the nutrients, then tap Add to Log.
The food appears in Today's Log.
Tips
- Start with the simple word (bread before sourdough toast).
- For a home-cooked dish, log the main ingredients separately.
- Soups, stock cubes, sauces, bread, cheese and cured meats are often high in salt, so they are worth logging when you are watching sodium.
- Coffee with milk works best as two lines, so caffeine is counted.
If nothing comes back
- Check the spelling.
- Try a simpler or more general name.
- Try the main ingredient, or scan a similar packaged food.
Missing nutrients
Some short database entries carry only a few nutrients. If a food shows no sodium figure, no sodium meter is drawn for it. Picking a fuller entry usually fixes that.
