Why VertigoMe always uses a dark screen

VertigoMe always uses a calm, dark look: a deep teal background with white and pale text. There is no light mode, and this is on purpose. You have not missed a setting.

Why it is dark

Many people with vestibular conditions find bright screens uncomfortable. Light sensitivity is common in vestibular migraine, and busy, bright, moving screens can make dizziness feel worse for some people. A dark, still screen:

  1. Sends less light into your eyes.
  2. Is easier to look at in a dim room or in bed at night.
  3. Is gentler when you feel a spin coming on.
  4. Uses a little less battery on phones with OLED screens.

The app also avoids animations and moving backgrounds for the same reason.

If the app looks too dark

  1. Use your phone's brightness slider to make the screen brighter.
  2. Turn on True Tone (iPhone) or Adaptive brightness (Android) so the screen adjusts to the room.

If the app looks too bright

  1. Turn the brightness down.
  2. For an even softer screen, turn on Reduce White Point (iPhone: Settings, Accessibility, Display & Text Size) or Extra dim (Android: Settings, Accessibility).
  3. In the evening, Night Shift (iPhone) or Night light (Android) gives a warmer tone.

If motion on screens bothers you

On iPhone, Settings, Accessibility, Motion, Reduce Motion calms animations across your phone. On Android, look for Remove animations under Settings, Accessibility.

If you really want a light mode

We do not offer one. We hope the reasons above make sense. If bright screens do not bother you, keep your phone at full brightness. The app stays readable.
