AutoSleep, Sleep Cycle and Pillow are popular sleep apps for iPhone. They all work the same way with VertigoMe, so this guide covers all three.
VertigoMe does not talk to your sleep app directly. Your sleep app writes your sleep to Apple Health, and VertigoMe reads it from there. If you have an Android phone, see How to connect Sleep as Android instead.
Step 1: Make sure VertigoMe can read sleep from Apple Health
- Open VertigoMe.
- Tap the gear icon in the top-left of the screen. A drawer slides in from the left.
- Tap Connections.
- Find the Apple Health card at the top and tap Connect. If it already says Connected, skip ahead.
- A short VertigoMe note explains what will be read. Tap Continue.
- Apple's permission sheet slides up. Tap Turn On All, then Allow.
If the card already says Connected, go straight to Step 2.
Step 2: Turn on Apple Health sharing in your sleep app
The wording differs a little in each app.
For AutoSleep
- Open AutoSleep.
- Open its settings (the gear icon).
- Look for Apple Health or Write to Health.
- Make sure Sleep is switched on.
- If a permission screen appears, tap Turn On All, then Allow.
For Sleep Cycle
- Open Sleep Cycle.
- Tap Profile (or the person icon).
- Tap Account, then Apple Health.
- Tap Connect to Apple Health.
- On the permission screen, tap Turn On All, then Allow.
For Pillow
- Open Pillow.
- Open its settings (the gear icon).
- Tap Apple Health.
- Switch Sync with Apple Health on.
- On the permission screen, tap Turn On All, then Allow.
Step 3: Check that it is working
- After your next night, open the Health app on your iPhone.
- Tap Browse, then Sleep. You should see last night.
- Open VertigoMe, tap the Monitor tab and scroll to the Sleep card.
Your sleep usually appears within an hour or two of waking up.
What VertigoMe does with your sleep
VertigoMe reads how long you slept, your sleep stages and how often you woke. You see it on the Sleep card in the Monitor tab. Short or broken sleep is a common factor people with vestibular conditions notice before a bad day, and once you have logged enough spins, VertigoMe can show whether your own sleep lines up with your spins in Insights.
Troubleshooting
"The Health app shows no sleep"
Your sleep app has not written anything to Health yet. Open last night's session in your sleep app and look for Share to Health or Re-sync to Health, often in a three-dot menu.
"Health shows sleep, but VertigoMe does not"
This is almost always a permission issue.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone (the grey gear, not the one inside VertigoMe).
- Tap Apps, then Health.
- Tap Data Access & Devices.
- Tap VertigoMe.
- Make sure Sleep is on.
"I use two sleep trackers"
That is fine. VertigoMe merges sleep from all your Apple Health sources, so a night tracked by both counts once.
