After a spin: the recovery phase

When the spinning stops, many people do not feel back to normal straight away. This after-phase is sometimes called the postdrome, or a vertigo hangover.

What it can feel like

It can last a few hours or a few days, and it can be different every time.

Why it is worth logging

  1. It shows the real cost of a spin. A spin of an hour that leaves you wiped out for a day is really a day-long event. Your report can only show that if you log it.
  2. It helps you plan. If your recovery follows a pattern, you can keep the next day lighter.

Being gentle with yourself

Recovery is part of the episode. Rest, drink water, eat something plain and move gently when you feel able. If unsteadiness after spins is not improving over weeks, mention it to your doctor. Vestibular rehabilitation can often help.
