Using your voice to describe a spin

Typing is hard when the room is moving. You can speak instead, and VertigoMe turns your words into text in the box.

Voice input is on the Paint the picture page of the full spin log, and on the Notes page.

Where the voice button is

  1. Tap the Log tab, then the Log Spin card.
  2. Tap Next to move past the Timing page.
  3. You are now on Paint the picture.
  4. Just below the big box there is a button with a microphone icon and the word Voice.

How it works

This works the same way on iPhone and Android.

  1. The first time you tap Voice, your phone asks for permission to use the microphone and speech recognition. Tap Allow. You only do this once.
  2. The button changes to Stop. Speak normally. Take your time and pause if you need to.
  3. Your words appear in the box as you speak.
  4. When you have finished, tap Stop.

Each time you tap Voice again, the new recording replaces the text in the box. So it is easiest to say everything in one go, then fix small mistakes with the keyboard.

What to say

Speak the way you would tell a friend on the phone. For example:

"I sat up in bed this morning and the room spun for about a minute. I felt sick and a bit unsteady for an hour after. I lay still with my eyes closed and it settled."

That is a perfect entry.

Fixing words that were heard wrong

  1. Tap inside the box next to the wrong word.
  2. Delete it and type the right word.

Letting the app fill in the rest

  1. Tap Find matches next to the Voice button.
  2. VertigoMe reads your words and pre-fills the pages that follow.
  3. You can correct anything that is wrong on those pages.

If the voice button does nothing

If you see Permission needed, the microphone or speech recognition permission is switched off for VertigoMe.

On iPhone

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and tap VertigoMe.
  3. Make sure Microphone and Speech Recognition are switched on.
  4. Open VertigoMe and try again.

On Android

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps, then find and tap VertigoMe.
  3. Tap Permissions and set Microphone to Allow.
  4. Open VertigoMe and try again.

If you see Voice error, your phone could not turn the speech into text this time. Try again in a quieter spot, or type instead.
